Haiti

As I am certain you all know, Haiti was hit by a devastating earthquake last Tuesday.
Haiti and its people have become very dear to me this year. Needless to say, I was ill to learn of the horrible tragedy. The earthquake ravaged Port au Price which is where the farm that I go to is located. I first heard from my friend, Sophie (the Treasurer of the Haitian Equestrian Federation). She said she was fine, her home and car destroyed, she was staying with a friend who had internet — she had not heard anything from the farm. The next afternoon I heard from Paula at the farm, she said they were all ok, horses too, but their home was done for. She had also heard from Daniel (another friend that I teach in Haiti), but no news from Sandro. It took another day to get news from Sandro, he is ok too! Wonderful news to hear that all my friends and the horses have survived. I realize that there are so many others that cannot say this. I am so so sad for this wonderful place and its people who have all worked so hard to improve the country over the past few years.
When I asked Paula what I could do to help, her exact words in reply were:
“PLEASE MAKE ALL PEOPLE AROUND YOU HELP FOR HAITI THE CONTRY IS COMPLETELY DESTROYED
HELP IS NEEDED IN ALL
Paula”
There are many ways that we can help.
The simplest way is to text 90999 and write Haiti in the text. This will make a $10 donation to Red Cross which will be charged to your phone bill.
There are many other ways to donate. I encourage you to do anything and everything you can do for these wonderful people!!!

I will continue to update you with what I know. Unfortunately, I have no more information. I am not sure how many supplies there are to care for the horses, the state of the farm, etc. Please keep the people, the horses, the country in your prayers!
